Barry Necyk was born at Vilna, Alberta in September 1951. He graduated from Vilna High School in 1969 and went on to attend NAIT (electronic engineering) and the University of Alberta (specialization in survey science).

Articles were served under W. Anderson, ALS (1985-1986), D. MacAuley, ALS (1986-1987), and V. Wolchansky, ALS (1987-1992). The topic of the technical report submitted as part of the qualifying examination was "Creating a Measurement-Based Geographic Information System of the Sawridge Indian Reserve No. 150H." Barry received his commission as an Alberta Land Surveyor on January 27, 1993.

Barry also holds his CLS commission and served on the ALSA's Convention & Social Committee and Historical & Biographical Committee.

Employment history includes working for the Federal Government, Western Regional Operations Centre, Challenger Geomatics and Usher Canada.

Running, music and record collecting are a few of his leisure activities.
