Donald Lantz was born in Wetaskiwin, Alberta in May 1967. He graduated from Frank Maddock High School of Drayton Valley in 1985 and went on to receive a diploma in Surveying Technology from NAIT in 1987, and a B.Sc. in Surveying Engineering from the University of Calgary in 1992.

Articles were served under Alberta Land Surveyors R.O. Hall, B. Jess, and J.D. Stephens. The topic of the technical report submitted as part of the qualifying examination was "Kemess Mines Transmission Line Project."

Donald received his commission as an Alberta Land Surveyor on January 22, 1999.

After graduating from the University of Calgary, he worked for Lamerton & Associates in Whitehorse, YT for two years.

Swimming, running, and hiking are a few extra activities that Donald enjoys.

In 2003, he moved to Australia.
