Ian was born in London, England in November 1966 and entered Canada in 1967. He graduated Sir Winston Churchill High School in Calgary and went on to receive a B.Sc. in Surveying Engineering from the University of Calgary in 1992.

Articles were served under Stephen Fediow, ALS from November 1997 to September 2002 and Ian Emmerson, ALS from September 2002 until he received his commission on April 16, 2004.

Ian also holds a P.Eng. designation and has participated on the ALSA Standards Committee since 2002. Surveying experience includes LiDAR mapping, survey control, parcel mapping, construction and urban land surveying. Ian is presently employed by the City of Calgary.

Ian enjoys biking, skiing and home improvement projects.
