  • Attended high school in Castlegar, BC
  • Served in the Canadian Navy (1967-1974)
  • Graduated from SAIT in 1977 with a diploma in surveying technology
  • Articled to D.C.J. Bruce, ALS (1978-1982)
  • Received ALS commission in 1982
  • Served on Public Relations Group (1986-1987); Systems & Procedures Group (1987-1988); served as Regional Chairman (1988-1990)
  • Member of Toastmasters International
  • Venture Youth leader for five years and foster parent for twenty-five years
  • Rodman with Strong Lamb & Nelson, Calgary (1975) for five months; Instrumentman with Commonwealth Construction, Calgary (1976) for four months doing layouts on a pulp mill construction site; cadastral surveyor with Alberta Transportation;
