He received his BSc.E (GGE) from the University of New Brunswick in 2007.

After graduating from UNB, he began his surveying career with a short stint in Bermuda before moving to British Columbia in the summer of 2007.

In 2011, he began working in Alberta while continuing to live in BC. His experience was mainly control, engineering and construction surveys on large oil sands projects while working for Athabaskan Resource Company until mid-2014.

He is a member of APEGA and APEGBC.

Johnathan plays hockey, softball and golf poorly on a regular basis.
