Commentary:
The face of the watch is inscribed “WALTHAM”. The outer circle is graduated into 24 hours and 60 minutes. A smaller inner circle at the bottom of the face is inscribed “SIDEREAL” and is graduated into 60 graduations, presumably seconds of a minute. According to the “Pocket Watch Data Base.com ” only 325 were produced and they were produced in 1910. The model is 1892. It is identical to a Waltham sideral watch shown in a 1911 Topley pamphlet: “Instructions Covering Astronomical Field Tables for the use of Engineers.”
According to Charlie Weir who donated the watch he believes it was used by A.G. Stewart, ALS#078. Although the watch does not work it is not damaged and otherwise appears to in good condition.
Source of Object: Donated by C.H. Weir, ALS.
Notes: The Society has only one in their collection.
