Commentary:
The T1A was first produced in 1957. It had an automatic compensator for the vertical circle. Similar to the T1, it had direct reading to 20” and was idea for traversing and cadastral survey work.
The theodolite with removable tribrach and folding mirror, is green in color with silver knerled thumb knobs, one tribrach locking twist clamp and three black eyepieces. The instrument and removeable tribrach are 29 cm (h) [with scope up] X 14 cm (w) (maximum width including knobs) X 14 cm deep (maximum depth including knobs), the telescope is 15 cm long. There is an upper and a lower motion, with clamps and slow motion screws for each. There is a circular bubble attached to the tribrach.
One side of the body of the instrument is inscribed “WILD HEERBRUGG SWITZERLAND T1A – 164505”.
The metal instrument case (bomb) is green in color and is 32 cm tall X 17 cm in diameter (including clamps) and is comprised of two pieces. The green cover is affixed to the cast base by two snap clamps that are on either end of a 1.5 cm (w) leather strap. The top of the case is domed and has one paper service stickers inside denoted as “norman wade company ltd.” The bottom of the cast base is green in color and has two black flip clamps for holding the instrument in place. In the bottom of the case are two black metal clips for holding a black plastic handled screw driver. There also is a plastic label, attached to the bottom, indicating that the instrument was repaired by Norman Wade.
The instrument and the (bomb) case are contained in a large orange plastic shipping case that has a flip top portion of the case. The closed case is 53 cm (h) X 31 cm square at the base. The inside of the case is padded with a black rubberized insert.
