Commentary:

This transit is identified as “Transit Astra TRs No 44407.”  The orgin of the name Astra could not be found. The transit was probably made for the Norman Wade company who marketed the transit.  The Norman Wade Company was a Canadian supplier of surveying and drafting equipment from 1945 to the early 2000’s. The face of the compass includes the serial number “No 44407” and the Norman Wade logo.

Inside the wooden box is a label with the heading ” 5 INCH TRANSIT” the label contains the transit specifications. On the inside and outside of the box are Norman Wade lables.

The transit box contains a lens shade, instrument adjusting pins and small adjusting wrench.
