Commentary:
The metal instrument case, comprised of two pieces, is green in colour and is 23.5 cm (l) X 13.5 (w) X 18.5 (h). The cover is clamped to the base by two hinge clamps that are located on either end of a leather strap, which is the handle for carrying the two-part case. The case cover has three labels, one is a metal tag riveted to the cover inscribed as “WILD OF CANADA LIMITED 157 MacLaren Street OTTAWA”, the second is an oval stick-on label “WIRTANEN ELECTRIC EDMONTON, ALBERTA” and a “W’ symbol with a lightening bolt through it, and the third is a Dymo plastic label “IW 753”.
The base of the case has three thumb clamps to hold the instrument in place. Also in the base are a wing nut wrench and an adjustment pin.
The instrument has two black eyepieces, two gun sights and eight chromed thumb screws. The total length of the instrument is 19.5 cm X base width of 11.5 cm X maximum height of 16 cm. On the side of the instrument is a tilting mirror for directing the light to the bubble vial. It also has a bullseye bubble located on the same side as the mirror. On the opposite side to the mirror, etched in white letters are the words “WILD HEERBRUGG SWITZERLAND N2 88121”.
