Commentary:
Kern DK2 Theodolite, s/n 39066, in metal case.
The rectangular metal instrument case is green in color and is 28 cm (h) x 18 cm (l) includes latches x 12.5 cm is comprised of two pieces. The green cover is affixed to the base by two snap clamps that are on either end of a 2 cm (w) leather strap with a buckle on one side. A plastic handle is over the middle of the strap and is 14 cm (l) X 2.5 cm (w). The top of the case is rounder and has one paper service stickers inside denoted as “Calgary Instrument Technical Service Ltd.” with service information. The words “Kern AARAU” in raised lettering appears on both sides at the bottom of the top of the case. The bottom of the case is green in color and has two flip clamps for holding the instrument in place. There is one slide top compartment in the base containing: 1 camel hair brush, 1 rolled up lens cleaning cloth, 1 box end wrench with screwdriver on the other end,1 adjusting pin, 1 spare thread adapter ring, 1 small key. On the top of the compartment cover is a smoked eyepiece lens cover. The number “40677” is stamped in the inside of the case base.
The theodolite is green in color with silver knurled thumb knobs and black eyepieces. The instrument is 21 cm (h) X 12 cm (w) (maximum width including knobs) X 11 cm deep (maximum depth including knobs), the telescope is 17 cm long.
On the outside of the left standard is “Kern AARAU SUISSE No 39066 DK2. The characters “DK” in the model name indicates that it is a Doppelkreis (double-circle) theodolite.
