Commentary:
Marked on the body of the theodolite is: “KERN & Co. Aarau, Swiss, 1914 No. 21135”
“926” is engraved on body of the theodolite and “Geodetic Survey of Canada No. 926” is engraved on the verticle circle casing. an EMR inventory control label is on the telescope and GSD 928 is on a white label on the body of the theodolite. EMR is an abbreviation for the Department of Energy, Mines and Resources which is the previous name of the Department Natural Resources Canada. GDS likely stands for Geodetic Survey Division.
With the instrument is a striding level marked “926.” c/w metal case.
The theodolite was used by the Geodetic Survey for geodetic survey work at the beginning of the 20th century.
