Commentary:
K&E Ranger V. The laser-based Ranger series of EDMs were introduced in 1970 by the Keuffel & Esser Company.
The Ranger V uses a helum-neon laser beam to make the measurement between the instrumenyt and a reflector prism target. It has a range of 25km and a accuracy of 5mm+2ppm. It is powered by a 12 volt battery.
It was used by the Alberta Director of Surveys for control survey work.
In 1982, K&E filed for bankruptcy.
