Commentary:
These two hand-held FANON radiophones (Walkie-Talkies were used by the survey firm J.B. Underwood and Associates Ltd. for communication while working in the field in Northern Alberta and Saskatchewan. They were taken out of service in 1972. J.B. Underwood and Associates was the predecessor to Kinloch Underwood Associates Ltd.
An ad on page 8 of the August 1970 Popular Electronic Magazine states:
Wherever you are-at home, in the car, or out in the field-these are the CB rigs that get your message across. Fanon’s Model IC -5000 is the ultimate in hand-held transceivers, offering integrated circuits and 6 channel operation.” It was listed for $99.95.
