Commentary:

The theodolite is dark green in color with silver knurled thumb knobs, one attached tribrach (three foot screws), three clamps for shuffling the instrument over the point, one folding mirror, one eyepiece for plumbing (over a point on the ground), one eyepiece for reading horizontal and vertical circles, two levelling bubbles, and one telescope. The instrument and attached tribrach are 27 cm (h) [with scope up]  X 13 cm (w) (maximum width including knobs and folding mirror) X 11 cm deep (maximum depth including knobs and tribrach leg), the telescope is 14 cm long with one peep sight on each side. There is an upper and a lower motion, with clamps and slow motion screws for each.
One side of the body of the instrument has a metal tag inscribed “HILGER & WATTS  ST156- 4192994  MADE IN ENGLAND”.
 
The dark green metal instrument case is 34 cm (l) [including chromed clamps] X  18 cm in (h) X 20 cm (w) and is comprised of two pieces. The dark green cover is affixed to the cast base by two snap clamps that are on either end of an adjustable leather strap. The top of the case is flat and has one paper label inside denoted as “Calgary Instrument Technical Service Ltd.” with spaces for various servicing information Date 5.8.71. In the bottom of the cast base is a bracket for the eyepiece sun shield (included). There also two metal tags, attached to the bottom of the cast base “U.S.A. DISTRIBUTERS DIETZEGN EUGENE DIETZGEN Co” ” HILGER & WATTS LTD. 98 ST. & PANCRAS WAY, LONDON, ENGLAND”.  The instrument is supported on rubber mounts in a horizontal position in the cast base.
