Commentary:

The CA 1000 system is a solid-state electronic microwave distance measuring system consisting of a Master Unit and a Remote Unit both contained in a blue carrying case along with the accessories.

It is capable of measuring distances from approximately 50m to 30km. With the standard antenna (also called a horn) it is capbale of measuring up to 10km, with an extended antenna (horn) up to 30km.

A brochure for the system states that operation is extremely easy with the remote operator not needing to be a trained person.

This CA1000 system was owned by Brown Okamura & Associates Ltd., Lethbridge, Alberta. It was used for the Alberta Control Network to measure distances between survey stations in the mountains from the Alberta / British Columbia boundary east to about Range 6, W5M, along the highway 3 corridor through the Crowsnest Pass region of southwest Alberta in the mid 1970’s.

Source of Object: Donated by Dave Williams, ALS (Ret.).

Notes: This is the only pair of CA1000’s in the collection. An operating manual for the CA1000 along with a comprehensive brochure describing the system is in the Societies hard copy file.
