Commentary:

This metal 50-foot long measuring tape is 1/4 inches or 6.5 mm. wide and fully-graduated in tenths and hundredths of a foot.

The case of the tape is embossed on the handle side: THE LUFKIN RULE CO.OF CANADA LTD, 50 FT , and  WINDSOR, ONT. CMH is scratched on the handle. On the side opposite of the handle is: THE HUGHES-OWENS CO. LTD. MONTREAL WINNIPEG TORONTO.

This tape would probably have been used to measure short distances, for example to buildings and other objects to be located and plotted on maps or plans. It would not have been used to measure property boundaries .
