Commentary:
The planimeter hasf a 20 cm long arm with a weight at one end with a pin at its bottom whic is called the weighted arm. Fitting into the weighted arm is the 24 cm long tracing arm (the part of the planimeter used to trace the boundary line of the closed figure to determine its area). Along the tracing arm is a black sliding attachment that has the scales required to determine the areas. The tracing arm also has a scale along it divided in 0.05 mm increments, numbered from “5” through to “35”. The side of the black sliding attachment has “ALPHA T.H.S. CO. No. 220 No. 19699” inscribed into it. It is assumed that the model number is 220 and the serial number is 19699.
On the top of the case, scratched into its the varnished surface is: “Jasper Yellowhead” and “#19699”. There is also a number “10152-04” imprinted in the varnish.
It wasreported, according to the donor, Don Snell, who was the property manager for the Banff Federal Building, as being used during construction of the Banff – Jasper Hwy. Don retrieved it in 1995 when it was to be disposed of when the building was been closed.
