Commentary:
The RED1A marked Sokkisha’s first entry into the electronic distance measurement market. The Red2 uses an Infra-red light beam to measure distances and has an accuracy of +/- (5mm+5ppm*D). With a single prism it can measure up to 1,600m, with a triple prism up to 2,500m and with nine prisms up to 3,000m under good conditions.
The Sokkisha company was founded in Japan in 1920 when it started making survey instruments. Over time it expanded its survey instruments products. The company changed its name to “Sokkia” in 1992 and in 2008 Topcon Corporation acquired Sokkia.
The top of the EDm has a label marked:- 37 MM + 13 PPM” label and an atmospheric correction table.
