Commentary:
This altimeter is inscribed “Gischard” “GERMANY.” It also has the letters “compens” on the face indicating it is compensated for temperature. An inner scale measures atmospheric pressure in millibars and a outer scale is marked in meters up to 4000 meters. The outer scale can be rotated to calibrate the altitude to a known altitude.
The Gischard company was founded in 1874 in Hamburg, Germany. It ceased operation in the mid-to-late 20th century.
